In April 1979, the chapel originated as a
mission when Fr. William Jenkins, then of the SSPX, said the
first Mass for a group of Fort Myers area traditional
Catholics in the home of a layperson.
On February 23, 1980, Fr. Hector Bolduc of
the SSPX visited Fort Myers and said the first of regularly
scheduled Masses at the Sheraton Motel, then located on S.
Highway 41.
In July 1986, the present property at 376
Prospect Avenue was purchased and the mission was renamed Our
Lady Queen of Angels Chapel.
In February 1993, the chapel board of
directors (dating from the time when the chapel was privately
owned by laymen) voted to deed the chapel to the SSPX, which
became official in August 1992.
In July 2001, a house on an adjacent lot at
450 Adams Street was purchased to serve as the rectory.
Currently there between 110 and 140 persons
in attendance at Mass.
