This chapel had its beginnings In the early
1970’s when a group of concerned Catholics contacted
Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and requested him to send one of
his priests to provide the traditional Mass to them in
Bakersfield. Archbishop Lefebvre agreed, and the first Masses
were offered in the homes of the faithful.
When the homes became too small to
accommodate the increasing numbers of faithful attending,
conference rooms were rented for the celebration of Mass.
Finally, in the mid 1980’s, a former Protestant building was
purchased and remodeled for Catholic worship and serves to
this day as St. Michael’s Chapel. The chapel complex now
includes an office for the pastor, a multi-purpose room and
bookstore, while the average attendance numbers 50 faithful.
